The Journey
From first encounter to International recognition
EARLY YEARS
The First Encounter
Raphael's journey into equine photography began not with a camera, but with a childhood fascination with horses. Growing up surrounded by the natural world, he developed an early appreciation for the grace and power of these magnificent creatures.
Macek’s love for animals is immediately evident in his work. He says, "A good photograph is more than a beautiful picture; it encompasses a wide range of emotions that tell the entire story of a moment frozen in time." It is precisely these moments that Raphael Macek captures like none other. Looking at one of his images, viewers can sense the vital force of a horse. The warmth of perfectly balanced light creates shapes and contrast, revealing Macek’s heightened sense of aesthetics and ongoing communication with nature.
It wasn't until his early twenties, after studying fine art and classical photography in Europe, that he combined these two passions. The result was a revelation—a way to capture not just the physical beauty of horses, but their essence, their spirit, their profound presence.
2010 - 2015
Finding the Voice
The breakthrough came during an extended journey through Dubai and Saudi Arabia, photographing Arabian Horses in their native landscapes. These majestic breed, with their proud carriage and ancient heritage, demanded a different approach—one based on patience, respect, and genuine connection.
It was here that Raphael developed his signature style: dramatic contrasts between color and black & white imagery that strips away distraction to reveal pure form, combined with patient observation that allows the horse's true character to emerge.
2016 - PRESENT
As Raphael's work gained recognition, his photographs found homes in private collections, corporate headquarters, and galleries worldwide. Each exhibition opened new doors, introducing his vision to collectors, curators, and fellow artists.
Today, his limited edition prints are sought after by discerning collectors who appreciate the intersection of technical mastery and emotional depth. His work continues to evolve, always seeking that perfect moment where trust, beauty, and artistry converge.

"I don't photograph horses. I translate moments of trust between species into images that transcend language and time."
Raphael's approach is rooted in the belief that great equine photography cannot be forced or manufactured. It emerges from genuine relationship—the willingness to wait, to listen, to earn permission rather than assume cooperation.
Every image represents not just technical skill, but emotional presence. The soft eye that shows trust. The proud carriage that speaks to centuries of breeding. The pause before movement that contains all potential energy.
This philosophy extends to his work with collectors. Each consultation is a partnership, ensuring that artwork enhances rather than merely decorates a space. The goal is always the same: to create images that become more meaningful with time, just experience it.
